MUD COSMETICS PACKAGING
Packaging concepts for a start-up mass market cosmetics line by an established make-up artistry school. To convey the concept of “educational,” “honest,” and “transparent” makeup, for the first direction (slide 2) I created line drawing illustrations of the products with a textbook feel and implemented the design on a clear “floating” boxes. Distinct colors had already been selected to systematize the vast inventory of products and the packaging design followed suit. The client ultimately chose the second direction (slide 3) which incorporated the graphic illustrations on a larger scale with textbook-style typography.
The final MUD packaging effectively communicated the educational brand positioning with few typographic modifications and the use of spot gloss varnish for the diagrammatic product illustrations, which gave it a sophisticated, upscale feel. The color coding introduced in the logo mark and in the headline copy kept the line organized for quick recognition on the shelf and ease of use.
Products are sold at MUD stores in Los Angeles and New York, on mudshop.com and by participating retailers worldwide.
