LUCKMAN PLAZA MONUMENT
The final phase of the adaptive reuse of Luckman Plaza in West Hollywood included designing the light monuments in the exterior courtyard of the building. The client wanted them constructed out of glass, screen printed from opaque white at the bottom gradating to clear at the top. We decided to add a touch more playfulness with dots, inspired by old comic/pop art. With each monument at nearly 10 ft. tall, it wasn’t easy mocking up different dot patterns at scale. But the exercise was fun, working with the screen printers on a large scale job was a valuable experience and the end product was exactly what the client had envisioned. Art direction by the late Stephen Kanner.
