Fortune Stickies was a freelance project for Knock Knock before I officially joined the team. Based on the concept of fortunes from a fortune cookie, with a dash of droll wit, and some repositionable adhesive, these sticky notes were meant to put "the fun in functional™." The challenge, of course, was to give it an Asian aesthetic without being stereotypical or offensive. My strategy was to create the connotations of those Asian motifs but in a very streamlined way, with bright colors, patterns, and modern typography. Though I had to throw some kanji in there for good measure (many thanks to an ex-colleague for her help in translation).
When these went into mass production, it was a gift and novelty milestone for my career. When a custom version of it was sold at J. Crew, you had to pick me up off the floor.
